Nestled amongst the trees overlooking Gelliceaux Bay, the most secluded and desirable sandy beach on the island, with calm waters that transform the sea in a gigantic swimming pool is a very private Beach House. Bamboo has been cleverly used throughout the property to create a naturally tropical and organic feel blending seamlessly with the surrounding canopy of trees.

The Movie

The house was the vision of Mary Lawrence, a unique combination of bedrooms and reception rooms hanging from the cliff in the tropical gardens, with the exceptional addition of a private beach and dining room on the water. Rooms are spread over three buildings surrounded by palms, and there are several outdoor spaces for lounging and dining as well as a seafront bar. Virtually the whole place is made of bamboo - walls, ceilings, furniture - and you can ride the villa's bamboo bicycle to the island's little grocery shop. There are two swimming pools and steps leading down to Gelliceaux Beach. Weekly rates in 2020 start from $27,000.

Architect Arne Hasselqvist designed homes on the private island in St Vincent & the Grenadines for the rich and famous, including Princess Margaret and David Bowie. One of the last Hasselqvist built, The Beach House, on the south-west coast, has been recently revamped and is made almost entirely of bamboo. It has a wonderful blend of luxury and rustic interiors with bamboo cleverly used throughout the décor creating a very natural and organic feel. Each of the 5 bedrooms and open plan living/ dining room are spread over three separate buildings and each is surrounded by stunning tropical gardens.
